Struggling with Behavior: Delivering Tier 2 Interventions and Preventing Bathroom Meetups

Before adopting Minga, Greer Lingle Middle School was juggling some serious challenges that made MTSS and student behavior management a real struggle. PrideTime, the school’s intervention period, wasn’t used efficiently—it became more of a free period than a targeted time for academic support, leading to disengaged students and wasted time. Meanwhile, behavior issues, especially in the bathrooms and hallways, were getting out of hand. Between TikTok-inspired pranks (hello, open milk trick) and vandalism, the school had no way to effectively report students’ whereabouts. Paper passes and spreadsheets just weren’t cutting it when it came to monitoring who was where and, more importantly, what they were doing.

KEY PROBLEM AREAS:

Ineffective Intervention Period: PrideTime was a free period for make-up work, instead of a focused time for targeted support, leaving students checked out.

Time Wasted: An inefficient system for scheduling and tracking their flex period took time away from teaching and learning.

Bathroom Chaos: With no solid tracking system, bathroom meet-ups and disruptions, including TikTok-driven pranks and vandalism, spiraled out of control.

Old Hall Pass System: Paper passes and spreadsheets were more “guessing game” than tracking tool, making it hard to manage student movement and behavior effectively.

Lack of Accountability: Without clear reporting, both students and staff were left with little to no accountability for their actions.
